Our drive to Dubrovnik takes us along the beautiful Bay of Kotor, the most southern fjord in Europe, crossing it by ferry boat. After crossing the border with Croatia, we arrive to the famous ancient city of Dubrovnik. “Those who seek paradise on earth”, George Bernard Shaw once wrote, “should come to Dubrovnik”. Dubrovnik is the one of the most beautiful and best-preserved medieval Mediterranean towns, rich in cultural monuments. Along the way we will pass by the Rector’s Palace (15th century) that used to be the seat of the Government and Rector in the once-independent Republic of Dubrovnik (abolished by Napoleon in 1808). Today, it gives us an idea of how the ruling class and the aristocracy used to live. Other fine buildings will be seen from the outside: the Sponza Palace, notable for its column courtyard with elaborate stone carving; the Church of St. Blaise; the Onofrio’s Fountain; the Cathedral, etc. At the end of the walking tour you will have some free time in the Old Town.
