The Plitvice Lakes National Park

Plitvice, Croatia

The Plitvice Lakes National Park, Croatia’s most popular tourist attraction, located roughly halfway between capital city Zagreb and Zadar on the coast, covers a total area of 300 square kilometres, whilst the lakes join together over a distance of eight kilometres. It is a part of UNESCO World Heritage from 1979. It lies in its sixteen lakes, the waters flowing over the limestone have, over thousands of years, deposited travertine barriers, creating natural dams which have created a series of beautiful lakes, caves and waterfalls. The forests in the park are home to bears, wolves and many rare bird species, so the Plitvice Lakes National Park is definitely must-see!
